One of the most unusual services ever provided by public transportation was introduced in 1907 by the Metropolitan West Side Elevated Railway. Before paved roads, travel to the cemetery was arduous and slow, so the company introduced specially designed cars to carry the deceased to resting places beyond the city limits.
